The theme on The Gallery this week is trees. This is my favourite trees. The photo was taken in January 2008, during one of our family walks and it was actually taken by the big one, then aged three. It’s amazingly accurate and all the more special because it is HER tree. The letter that has been rather crudely painted onto the bark is the first letter of her name and it appeared at a time when she was just learning her letters and sounds. It was magical to her.
The tree is still there today and we always snap it if we have a camera handy. I like the way the roots are exposed for all to see and yet it still stands tall and proud. The big one’s tree.

How wonderful! I always find it mazing how the roots of trees can appear above ground like that.
Great piece of photography by her.
That’s lovely. I imagine the letter appearing really did seem like magic. My daughter’s fingers have just got long enough for her to be able to hold the camera and press the button. It’s amazing the photos they can take isn’t it?
I love it when things turn out like that and produce something magical for a child. perfect.
Aw how lovely for her! And what a budding photographer xx
Apparently a tree’s roots extend as far out underground as its branches do overhead. Incredible isn’t it?
Wow, that *is* magical! And I garee – so cool when their roots are all gnarley & above ground, yet they’re still not budging!
Great photo, these roots are amazing!
Gorgeous picture. And made even more special by the fact your daughter took it. x
How lovely. That tree does seem to be hanging on tight!
What a fantastic picture!
