The pre-schooler loves dinosaurs. We had a dinosaur party for his third birthday (still need to blog that!) and so when I saw this post from Jennie at Edspire, I knew I had to have a go myself! The pre-schooler has certain rules when it comes to messy play. If it’s dry, he’s in. But if his hands get… well, messy, then he’s out. Water is fine, but anything sticky or gloopy is not. So I thought combining messy play with dinosaurs might be a good idea.
When we do messy play these days, it has to be edible. The baby eats everything, and she also wants to be a part of everything too. So Jennie’s messy play with jelly and oats was perfect. Nothing to make tummies too poorly there!
I only made the jelly this morning so I popped it in the freezer until it was almost set- a lovely gloopy green. I poured it into the sand tray and then I added oats around the edges to make it look like a swamp. I popped a few dinosaurs in the sand tray and left the rest in the side trays so they could add as many as they liked.
Then I went out and left the lovely Minty from Waterbirthplease to it! Haha. Seriously though, we had to pop out and I thought maybe the pre-schooler would be a little more tolerant of the gloop if I wasn’t there. If I remember rightly, his words upon seeing the Dinoworld were:
“Minty, I’m not going to play with this because my hands will get messy!”
He’s a man of his word. But G had a lovely time, so I hear. Back to the drawing board for this one- clean messy play ideas needed please!
