We’ve been sent a couple of games from Orchard Toys to review, and since we’re already huge fans of these games for preschoolers, it can come as no surprise to hear that we love them! If you’re looking for a last minute stocking filler, Christmas gift, or a fun game to play in between now and Christmas (and let’s face it, we all need ideas on how to keep the kids entertained while they climb the walls with excitement!) then look no further. Here are our thoughts on the Cake Monster and Christmas Surprises games.
This game is aimed towards children aged three and upwards, and is a simple game that teaches a multitude of skills. It’s great for
- Observational Skills
- Number and Counting Skills
- Personal and Social Skills
- Matching and Memory Skills
- Hand Eye Coordination
Not to mention it’s great fun too!
The object of the game is to collect a full plateful of cakes, and there are two ways to play. Like other games from Orchard Toys, the game is fun, educational and very easy to play, so perfect for preschoolers jus beginning to learn counting skills and turn taking.
The pieces are brightly coloured and durable- all printed on thick cardboard that withstands even the heaviest of hands!- and the whole game play is short and sweet, making it great for limited attention spans. This would make a great stocking filler or gift this Christmas.
This one is being tipped as the ultimate Christmas game and I have to say that I agree. There are two ways to play this game, and the kids have loved playing it over and over. Like other Orchard Toys games, it’s easy to follow and the instructions are simple enough for the kids to just get on and play.
The object of the game is to either fill your Christmas tree with coloured baubles (by matching the colours on the dice to the colours on the game board) or to fill Santa’s sack with toys (by matching the shapes).
Bella loves this game! It’s great for her colour and shape recognition and also helps to:
- Promoting Imaginative Play
- Encouraging Observational Skills
- Encouraging Discussion
- Developing Shape and Matching Skills
- Developing Personal and Social Skills
It’s also wonderful for generating a bit of Christmas excitement!
Bella and I extended the learning with this game, by using it to inspire some creative art. We created baubles by drawing shapes and sticking brightly coloured foils and other sparkly bits onto the paper. Bella pointed out all the different shapes, textures and colours too.
The Christmas Surprises game is another fantastic addition to the Orchard Toys collection, and at the moment if you spend over £20 you get free delivery, plus a free game of animal snap too. Hurry! These are two games you’ll want under the tree this Christmas!
