Uncommon Goods for the Undecided

I’m absolutely terrible at buying gifts. I love doing it. I love giving those I love little tokens that show them they’re nice people; that they’re appreciated and that I like having them in my life. But I am so bad at choosing! It can take me such a long time. I procrastinate. Then I sit on it for ages, believing that my choice is terrible and that they’ll wonder what the hell I was thinking when I chose it. I can agonise for days about my gift choices, and let me tell you- that really takes the fun out of it all! By the time I give my gift, I am a paranoid mess! And between you and me? It’s worse when it’s for children. I hate to think other parents might wonder what the hell I was thinking! So when a site like Uncommon Goods crops up, people like me need to take control of the situation again. Uncommon Goods for the undecided! Let me explain…

Uncommon Goods is not like other online gift stores, where the same items are produced over and over again in varying shades and different packaging. Instead, they’re committed to showcasing only original and creative products that are guaranteed to make gift buying a little easier. As they say themselves: “We’re committed to offering you a creative and exciting merchandise assortment and are working with our suppliers – from artists to small manufacturers – to make their products in a more socially and environmentally responsible manner. ” Many of the products at Uncommon Goods are not only quirky and different, but they’re also made from recycled, sustainable and ethical sources too. And you also have the option to give back to charity when you buy.

So with Uncommon Good’s mission in mind, the only issue that needs to be addressed is this: can I buy a gift here?

I have to say that buying a new baby gift here is actually a lot of fun. Search by age, and you’e giving a list of ages to choose from, and within that there are some beautiful and original gift ideas for the undecided. I love the 2016 Birth Year Box to keep special trinkets and souvenirs in when baby arrives. And down at the the bottom of the page you can see other items by the same artist, along with a carefully selected range of similar items to save you trawling back through everything again. Not that it would be a chore! When they said they work hard to bring us creative and exciting products, they really meant it! Check out other baby gifts here.

The kids have their eye on these wonderful dinner plates with a difference- the construction plate, the garden plate and the food face plate are all firmly on the list! They’re gifts that are a little different, but ones that will definitely be used again and again, unlike other cheaper offerings I’ve been known to buy in the past! And so what about for the trickiest gifts of all? The first ever gift, The gift that tells someone you are happy that they are in the world. The gift that tells new parents their precious bundle of joy is a blessing to you too. New baby gifts terrify me! I want to get it right so badly. I want to choose a gift that means something. A gift that will be treasured for years. A gift that tells my friends and family they are loved. I also love to get gifts for the parents as much as for baby too, which is why I simply adore this beautiful Mother Nesting necklace.  Gosh, I’d buy this necklace for me, let alone for a gift! It’s handmade from recycled silver and if you want to know more about the people behind it you can read their story on the page. As with all the other listings, you can also catch up with other beautiful pieces from this designer, plus similar items from others too. I have to have the mother elephant necklace, in case anyone was looking for a gift for me… Take a look at the rest of the baby shower gifts here.

So, Uncommon Goods. Definitely uncommon. Definitely fun. Definitely unique. So does the shopping process live up to the dream? Prices are shown in GBP (despite the company being US) and t buy you need you can either use Paypal (yes! Makes it SO much easier) or you can register and sign in and pay by card instead. I love that you can use Papyal because it makes the whole process a lot quicker, but if you register you can sign in for faster check out next time. Please note that you do pay both shipping costs and taxes on your items.

Verdict: I’m loving Uncmmon Goods! It’s definitely one to keep in my favourites for the next time I need to spend less than a week choosing a gift, and I have a feeling the wish list facility is going to come in really handy when birthday season approaches once more! Go check it out!
