Once again we’ve been lucky enough to receive another new item from swimming range to review, and this time from their new swimming range. Since Bella is a true water baby and absolutely loving her swimming lessons at the moment, I decided to pick something out for her to wear. Another beauty of Frugi being that the clothes are not just for babies! The pieces for preschoolers and older children are just as awesome, as you’ll see from previous reviews were we’ve had these bits for The Big One and this coat for The School Boy. You really can dress the whole family at Frugi, especially as the maternity and breastfeeding range is all super gorgeous too. This time though, we’re talking the The Sally Swimsuit from Frugi– this is what we thought.
The new swimwear range
The swimwear range at Frugi is new, so this is the debut season for the brand and I have to say it seems to be going swimmingly, if you’ll excuse the pun! It was really difficult to choose actually, and had Bella been a little younger I would definitely have gone for the Little Sally swimsuit with the beautiful little skirt attached. Alas, she’s a big girl now (as she keeps telling me!) so we plumped for the regular Sally, for kids aged 2-10. We haven’t been disappointed!
The Sally Swimsuit
The Sally Swimsuit is different to other suits because it’s made from a special blend of Oeko Tex, with 80% Nylon and 20% Elastane Stretch. This makes it not only soft to touch and comfortable to wear, but it also provides up to UP50+ protection from the sun. So when your little ones are out in the summer, you can rest assured they’re are as protected as can be. I love that. We apply sunscreen to their skin, but sometimes it’s just not enough- so it’s peace of mind knowing that the Sally swimsuit is going to provide that little bit extra protection when we need it.
As you’d expect from Frugi, the Sally swimsuit is bright, colourful and fun. We love the print on this one, and it really does suit Bella as red seems to be ‘her colour’. It’s girly without the frills and pink that aren’t always necessary (although sometimes definitely are!) and it’s functional too. It fits well, close to her body, and she says it feels comfortable too. It’s bold and it’s fun. Just like Bella.
The straps on the costume are comfortable and they don’t slip down as other costumes we have. Perfect for lots of playing on the beach when the weather warms up!
Price and suitability
The Sally swimsuit retails at £18 which I think is about right for a swimming costume you expect to last a couple of summers and then be suitable to be passed on. I fully expect Elsie to be wearing this costume in a few years time (we never throw anything away!) and because it’s made from such good quality materials I don’t see this being an issue at all. Some costumes tend to stretch out over time, but the Sally has plenty of stretch in it and seems really sturdy, so we’ll see. I also know that some costumes don’t stand up to sand and sea water very well; again this is a test we’ve yet to conduct but I feel confident the Sally will be ok! Since we’ve been testing the costume we’ve had some lovely weather, so Bella has really been putting it through it’s paces. There has been no issues or complaints from her at all in terms of comfort or style!
Although the Sally is probably a little more expensive than you would pay on the high street, I honestly think that you get what you pay for- and we have a really well made, thoughtfully designed and beautiful looking swimming costume that fits well and feels comfortable. Not only that, but Bella has little bit more protection from the sun when she wears it so you can throw in some parental peace of mind too. It’s not skimpy like some swimming costumes out there for little girls, and it’s definitely not boring either. And, as with everything else in the Frug range- when you buy the Sally swimsuit, you donate to charities across the world that are dedicated towards preserving our planet. So, it’s a win for the Sally!
