Sea Band: A Holiday Giveaway

July 26, 2017      131 Comments

I love this time of year if I’m honest. Long, lazy days stretching ahead with no time restraints and no real need to be anyway fast- just what the kids need after a busy year at school. And like most families, we look forward to getting away too. The only problem with summer holidays away though, is the travelling with kids part. My son often says he wishes we could just snap our fingers and teleport ourselves to our destination, and I have to say that the idea is very tempting indeed! And for some, its not just the length of time spent travelling, its the fact that the travelling itself can really take its toll on your health. Yep, we’re talking travel sickness, and until a couple of years ago I’d never experienced it. Let me tell you, it is NOT fun at all.  So when Sea Band got in touch to see if I’d like to try out their products, along side some super fun holiday activity books for the kids I felt it only sensible to say yes. Here are my thoughts, plus read to the end for details of a fab giveaway too!Sea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostwritermummy.co.ukSea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostwritermummy.co.uk

Sea Band

A couple of Christmases ago, we took the Euro tunnel to Paris and spent a week at Disneyland. We decided to mix it up on the way home and took the ferry instead of the train. Oh my goodness. The eldest and I were so sick! I’d been on ferries previously and had been fine, so this really took me by surprise. The constant motion, the lurching, the general uneasiness on my feet… we were green! There was only one way to describe it… morning sickness. During my pregnancy with Luka I’d been so nauseous that a friend suggest I try Sea Bands.

I hadn’t realised that Sea Bands could be used for morning sickness and nausea, and at that point I was willing to try anything! As you can see in the photo above, the bands can be used for this purpose and not just for travel sickness, the reason being that they work by a small plastic stud applying pressure on the Nei-Kuan acupressure point on each wrist. Applying pressure here helps to alleviate the symptoms of nausea, no matter how it’s caused. Sea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostwritermummy.co.uk

As you can see the Sea Bands are knitted bands that are worn around the wrist, available for adults and children. They look a little like sweat bands, and can be worn under your sleeve if you prefer. The kids bands have funky patterns and are brightly coloured, which the kids really loved!Sea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostwritermummy.co.uk

How do they work?

It’s important to wear the band properly if you want to feel the benefits. You need to place the plastic stud in the correct position- but don’t worry, it’s really easy to do. Simply put your middle three fingers on the inside of your wrist, with the edge of the third finger on the wrist crease. The Nei-Kuan point can be found just under the edge of your index finger, between the two tendons. The plastic button stud needs to be facing down over the Nei-Kuan point, and you need one band on each wrist.

Once in place, the Sea Bands work by applying pressure to the Nei-Kuan point, there are several theories as to why the bands actually work to relieve symptoms of sickness and nausea. You can read more about them here. But let me tell you- they do work.

Sea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostwritermummy.co.uk

During my pregnancy with my son, I wore Sea Bands constantly. I love the fact that they are washable- just wash gently with warm water and soap, then rinse well and allow to dry naturally. There are many other benefits to using them too-

  • They’re drug free, which means they have no side effects at all, and you aren’t going to run out suddenly while you’re away.
  • They’re low cost, and a one off payment- Adult Sea-Band available from Boots: £8.59; Child Sea-Band available from Boots : £8.59.
  • Nausea is typically reduced within 5 minutes after applying the bands, so there is no waiting around for relief.
  • They are suitable to use with children.
  • They are suitable to use in pregnancy.
  • They’re latex free, so unlikely to cause irritations.

Travel Sickness

My mum suffers terrible with travel sickness, and for her it really is no joke. She’s spent entire flights crouched on the floor by her seat trying not to vomit. Sea Bands are fantastic for people like my mum, for whom travelling can be a complete nightmare. Natural, drug free and easy to use- plus they come in really handy little boxes that fit easily into your bag, so you never need to be without them.

Sea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostwritermummy.co.uk

Sea Bands say:

The nausea, dizziness and vomiting caused by any form of transport are triggered by a confusion of messages received in the brain. Although you may be sitting motionless in a seat, your senses tell you that you are actually moving. Contrary to common belief, the resulting nausea is not “all in the mind” and is experienced by children and adults alike.

So by using the ancient Chinese practise of acupressure, you too could travel free and easy this summer!

The Giveaway

The bit you’ve been waiting for! I’ve got three sets of Sea Bands (a set consists of one adult set and one child set) and three Happy Holiday activity booklets to give away! The booklets are a great way to keep kids entertained while you travel- we’ve been testing them out and give them a big thumbs up!Sea Bands: A Holiday Giveaway_Ghostrwritermummy.co.uk

All you need to do to be in with a chance is to leave a comment answering the following question:

Where in the world does acupressure originate from?

Good luck!
