Looking for a gift with a difference this Easter? These ‘surprise inside’ tins are super easy to make and look really pretty. The reaction of the recipient is the best thing when opening this gift!
Here’s how I made them.
Assemble the materials. You’ll need:
- Several small tins with a ring pull lid. I used a sweetcorn tin
- Some large packets of sweets of your choice. I used M&Ms and Cadbury Mini Eggs
- A glue gun or other super glue
- A small square or offcut of tissue paper
- A4 printable labels
When you use the tins in your normal cooking, make sure you open the tins from the bottom with a can opener that leaves a safe edge, leaving the ring pull intact. I was sure to tell the family that these particular tins were reserved for my project so when they want to eat the food inside, to tell me so I can open the tin! Tip: Store these tins upside down in your cupboard so no-one forgets that they are reserved for your craft project!
When the tins are empty, wash out and allow to dry completely.
Then, fill the tins with the sweets of your choice.
Next, add some tissue paper on top of the sweets so that they don’t touch the lid area which is going to be glued.
Now use your glue gun to stick the lid in place. Once applied, I used some tins from my cupboard to weight the lid down.
Once the glue is fully dry, turn the tins the right way up (with the ring pull at the top) and apply the label of your choice. The brown labels I used from OnlineLabels.com are a perfect size for the sweetcorn tin I used. You could also use this label with a tin the size of a standard ‘Baked Bean’ tin, just position it centrally.
Now simply decorate the ring pull with some ribbon or wrap some ribbon around the top of the tin.
Would you make this gift? What would you put inside your tin? Let me know in the below!
